Massa claims shock pole for first time in six years

Felipe Massa claimed his first pole in six years as team-mate Valtteri Bottas helped secured a Williams one-two in qualifying for Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix.

Given the recent domination of Mercedes pair Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg it was a welcome breath of fresh air at the Red Bull Ring.

The Brit came in at a lowly ninth while his team-mate finished in third behind the Mercedes duo as both hit trouble during the race.

Hamilton had his lap discounted on the first run for running while and then spun with a problem on his second.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso took fourth ahead of Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo and McLaren's Kevin Magnussen.

Rosberg did manage to record two laps, albeit poor ones, as Hamilton failed to make a time.

It sets up a fascinating GP tomorrow with Hamilton trailing Rosberg by 22 points in the championship race after retiring for the second time this season in Canada.

Mercedes' troubles will not worry Massa or Bottas as both took full advantage.

The Finn was quicker than his team-mate initially but ran wide on his final run to allow the Brazilian sneak ahead and qualify on pole.
