NFL week 2 tips

Cincinnati Bengals to beat Baltimore Ravens

In arguably the biggest surprise of last week, potential MVP contender Joe Burrow and his Cincinnati Bengals were soundly defeated 24-3 by the Cleveland Browns.

This week’s opponents the Baltimore Ravens will be a stern test. AFC North divisional matches are always a battle and the Ravens led by quarterback Lamar Jackson can cause damage to most opponents.

However, I would not expect the Bengals to be as poor as they were last week. Joe Burrow will not be in the same rainy conditions that hampered him, and even the best players have off weeks.

The Bengals recent home record at Paycor Stadium is very impressive, winning their last seven contests. They will be hoping their home sell-out crowd of 65,000 will drive to secure a win.

Detroit Lions to beat Seattle Seahawks

In last week’s opening game of the NFL season, the Detroit Lions marched into the Superbowl champion Kansas City Chiefs' home and secured an all important victory.

The Lions first home match-up will be against the Seattle Seahawks, a team who unexpectedly lost against the LA Rams last week despite being favourites.

There is so much excitement for the Lions it is hard to back against them winning on Sunday. Their home crowd at Ford Field will be extremely loud and daunting for opposing teams, and will look to build on the feel good nature that is growing. I would expect the Lions to go to 2-0 with another statement victory.

Kansas City Chiefs to beat Jacksonville Jaguars

The Superbowl Champions were far from their best against Detroit. It was truly bizarre how many mistakes were made by a team known for their consistency and preparation.

They now face a confident Jacksonville Jaguars team in a rematch from January's AFC Playoff matchup. The Jaguars will be a tough test, they have talent throughout their team and should expect to secure a playoff spot this season.

It is likely the Chiefs will welcome back their superstar tight end Travis Kelce, in a huge boost. Last week it was obvious Patrick Mahomes missed him in key times, and was a big reason for their defeat.

This 6pm skirmish is arguably the game of the week and will likely see a real back and forth between two excellent teams. Nevertheless, I have trust in the Chiefs to respond and narrowly defeat the Jaguars in a real back and forth encounter.

Buffalo Bills to beat Las Vegas Raiders

In what is clearly a theme from last week, the Buffalo Bills were far from their best against the Jets and fell to a 22-16 overtime loss. The Bills looked sloppy and star quarterback Josh Allen was startlingly dreadful with three interceptions and a fumble.

The Bills will look to bounce back in a positive manner. They were extremely good at home last season going 7-1 at Highmark Stadium. Buffalo start as -8.5 favourites to win on Sunday so should ensure their first home win of the season.
