Bill Belichick sounds like a ‘Swiftie’ as he delivered backhanded Travis Kelce compliment

Bill Belichick has weighed in on the biggest story in the NFL.

Hot off another victory against the New York Jets, the greatest football coach of all time was asked about the relationship that dominated TV and cellphone screens on Sunday.

What does the head coach of the New England Patriots think about Taylor Swift taking over a Kansas City Chiefs game?

In the past, Belichick would have coldly declared that he was on to Dallas or it was what it was.

"Not on SnapFace, not too worried what they put on InstaChat," the six-time Super Bowl champion once famously said.

But the 71-year-old Belichick is becoming a bit of a softie in his advancing age.

Or is he really just a Swiftie at heart?

"Well, I would say that Travis Kelce has had a lot of big catches in his career. This would be the biggest," he told , the morning after Kansas City destroyed Chicago 41-10.

Kelce caught seven balls for 69 yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes made NFL history with Swift cheering from above, and Kansas City coach Andy Reid claimed credit for introducing the Chiefs' All-Pro tight end to a singer who's been selling out NFL stadiums across America.

This isn't the first time that Belichick has weighed in on the 12-time Grammy winner.

In fact, Belichick has now been quoted in back-to-back months discussing Swift.

"I saw a little bit of Taylor," Belichick, after her huge tour took over Gillette Stadium in the summer.

That counts as a lofty compliment considering it comes from a coach who once sternly proclaimed, “I’m a football coach. I’m not a doctor.”

It was Swift's ability to do her job -- and keep on doing it in the rain -- that most impressed the tough-to-please Patriots legend.

"She's tough, man," Belichick said. "She stood out there and played right through."

Belichick is 299-154 all-time with six world championship rings as a head coach.

While Tom Brady has retired from the NFL, Belichick is still cranking out the hits.

He hasn't won a Super Bowl since 2017.

But when you're a 71-year-old NFL head coach dropping Swiftie references, you're living life right.

"I'm definitely on the, 'You've got to calm down,'" said Belichick, referencing a favourite tune.

He added: "That's pretty good. You've got to calm down. There's a lot of times when that's very appropriate."
