Shannon Sharpe is a Super Bowl winner and a Hall of Fame tight end, so he has more than earned his rest in retirement.

But the NFL broadcaster takes zero days off and looks in better shape than plenty of current stars in the sport.

The 55-year-old has a resume that is the envy of plenty in the game.

He had a stellar college career with Savannah State, but was not a highly-rated prospect. Eventually being selected in the seventh round by the Denver Broncos.

And boy did he make all those teams pass on him pay.

He went on to win two Super Bowls with the Broncos and then a third with the Baltimore Ravens.

In total, Sharpe played 14 seasons in the NFL, accruing more than 10,000 yards and 62 touchdowns before retiring in 2003.

He was more than deserving of his place in the Hall of Fame and has rightly taken his place as one of the greatest tight ends in history.

Sharpe has gone on to have a successful career in broadcasting following his retirement and still trains as if he is a full-time athlete.

What’s even more remarkable is that a few years ago he had a double hip replacement, and still is able to train as hard as ever.

Sharpe gets up at 4:45am every morning and still works out four or five days a week.

Staying in that good a shape is definitely not easy, it’s a 365-day a year job to maintain his physique.

All you need to know ahead of Super Bowl 58 as the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to take on San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas, Nevada

He told : “People say they want to be in shape, but they really don’t. ‘Shannon, tell me how to do this but I have to have my beer, pizza, doughnuts, and wings.’ You already told me what you’re not going to give up.

“It’s hard-ass work to maintain a level of fitness year-round. It’s hard ass work. It has to be a lifestyle. You see the way Steve Harvey dresses? That’s a lifestyle. LeBron, Kevin Durant, Kevin Hart, and the way they do things, it’s a lifestyle.

“I’m willing to sacrifice because without sacrifice, dedication, and discipline, you’re nothing. I don’t care how well intended the idea is. Without those principles, it’s going to fail. I don’t post a lot of my workouts, but it’s hard.

“You’re also not always going to be motivated, but will you always be consistent? I tell people don’t call it a diet because those have a start and stop time.

“A lifestyle is how you live, how you are, and it’s embedded in you. Yeah, you might have a day where you’re off, but you hop right back on it.”

His workouts include a mixture of free weights, bench, incline, dumbbells, kettlebells, row machine, and exercise bikes.

"As an athlete, I had conditioned myself to stay on a strict schedule, whether that’s for work or even finding just a few minutes to relax. So I kept that," .

"I still give 100 per cent to everything I do, from being on air... to working hard in the gym.

";I’m about quality of life, not quantity of life."

Sharpe is sure to be around and about at the Super Bowl this weekend where tight ends Travis Kelce and George Kittle will go head-to-head.

They better watch out or Sharpe will be after their starting jobs.
