One dead and multiple people injured, including nine children with gunshot wounds in shooting at Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade

One person has been killed, while nine children were treated for gunshot wounds during the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl victory parade.
The team had been celebrating their win in front of an estimated one million supporters, before gun shots were fired at around 2pm local time. The Kansas City Police department said at least 22 people suffered gunshot wounds and confirmed three people had been arrested.
Radio Station KKFI said one of their presenters, DJ Lisa Lopez, was killed in the shooting.
"Our hearts and prayers are with her family. This senseless act has taken a beautiful person from her family and this KC Community," the statement read.
Meanwhile, Children’s Mercy’s chief nursing officer Stephanie Meyer said the children injured are expected to recover.
"I want to clarify that we have had 12 patients that we have treated, 11 of which are children and nine with gunshot wounds," adding that none are in critical condition.
At a press conference, police chief Stacey Graves told reporters: "At the conclusion of the Chiefs' rally today, there were shots fired on the west side of Union Station.
"Immediately, officers responded to the area, took two people into custody and also immediately rendered life-sustaining aid to those victims."
At a later briefing, she confirmed one victim had been fatally wounded and at least 22 were injured.
"Right now, we're still working on the total number of victims. This is still an active investigation. We do have three persons detained and under investigation for today's incident.
"Our investigators are working with all of the surviving victims to connect them with loved ones. We are also working to identify our deceased victim so we can notify their family as soon as possible."
On Twitter, police appealed for information. "We need to hear from anyone in the vicinity of the parade shooting today that directly witnessed the shooting incident, has any video of the shooting incident or who was a victim of the shooting who has not yet reported being shot to please call this dedicated line 816-413-3477."
And in a separate tweet confirmed they were looking into a threat from someone claiming they would attack the parade.
Kansas City Chiefs said none of their players, staff or their families, were among those injured.
"We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today's parade and rally," Chiefs' team statement said.
"Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City.
"We are in close communication with the Mayor's office as well as the Kansas City Police Department. At this time, we have confirmed that all of our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for.
"We thank the local law enforcement officers and first responders who were on-scene to assist."
The Chiefs’ star quarterback, Mahomes, posted to X, formerly Twitter, that he was “praying for Kansas Cityâ€, while tight end Travis Kelce wrote: "I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today. My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me."
Videos emerged on social media of fans tackling someone to the ground before police intervened.
Terrifying footage showed fans panicking to get away from the shots with some jumping over fences to get away from the gunfire.
Chiefs were celebrating their third Super Bowl triumph in five years after a dramatic win in overtime top beat the San Francisco 49ers.
Mahomes found Mecole Hardman with just seconds left on the clock to secure back-to-back Super Bowl victories.
Cannons filled with confetti exploded from double-decker buses where the players were situated as they made their way through the streets.
Kelce's girlfriend and pop icon Taylor Swift was not in attendance, however, having flown to Australia as part of her Era Tour.
