It turns out Patrick Mahomes is just like the rest of us.

A viral picture of the three-time Super Bowl winner celebrating Kansas City's AFC title win against the Baltimore Ravens last season showed him in an particularly unflattering light.

The quarterback's incredibly relatable dad bod broke the internet and was championed by men of a certain vintage who lauded his frame as the very peak of male performance.

Mahomes himself had a hilarious eight-word response to the photo at the time, and now he's explained why the extra cushion makes for a 'great body for a quarterback'.

In a recent sit-down interview with TIME, Mahomes , "I definitely have the dad bod a little bit.

He went on: “I’ll also say I have a great body for a quarterback. You’ve got to have some padding in there to take the hits that we take.”

Mahomes has been vocal about his relaxed approach to dieting in the past.

TIME reported that he 'remains obsessed with Chick-fil-A and snacking on Starbursts' and is proud of being a part-owner in eight of Kansas City's Whataburger locations.

Thanks to wife Brittany, we also know that Pat indulges in an unusual bedtime habit before he goes to sleep every night.

In a Q&A on Instagram, Brittany revealed that her husband 'eats Doritos every night in bed' before going to sleep.

Brittany also revealed his love of chocolate-dipped ice cream cones - which she jokes he eats '10 a night of'.

In a TikTok video with , Mahomes admitted that he is a 'big snacker,' especially at night. 

“I always grab either a purple bag of Doritos, which I just got on. I used to be a cool ranch guy, but now I’m on the purple bag,” he said of the spicy sweet chili flavor.

"Or I grab some gummies," he went on.

"Like the Jolly Rancher gummies. Green's my favorite flavor.

"Or Starburst. I know there's a debate about this but the red flavor is definitely the best.

"I like the pink too but red, c'mon, let's end the debate."

Mahomes' unorthodox diet has hardly hindered his progression to the summit of the National Football League.

The KC signal caller is fresh off his third Super Bowl ring and MVP after throwing the game-winning touchdown in overtime of Super Bowl LVIII.

Mahomes is widely regarded as the best player in the game today and insists he does have a six pack, albeit somewhere underneath his dad bod.

“I have a six pack, it’s just under the dad bod," he said before February's Big Game in Vegas.

"If you feel—there might be some skin there, but then underneath that, the six pack is there. You just gotta get real close and squint a little bit. I think you’ll see it.”
