Tom Brady set record after record while becoming the most successful quarterback in NFL history.

Patrick Mahomes is already all over the NFL record book, despite only being 28 years old.

But while most football records eventually fall, some are set so high they're unlikely to be touched.

Like a quarterback throwing 42 interceptions in a single season.

Or a linebacker accumulating 156 solo tackles in one year.

As the kickoff for the 2024 season approaches between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens, a 17-game season provides extra opportunity for players to surpass old records and establish new marks.

Yet in a sign of how much talent has poured through the NFL in past decades, all of the following single-season records were set before 2014.

Peyton Manning threw for an NFL-record 55 touchdowns in 2013 with the Denver Broncos.

That mark hasn't been matched by Mahomes or Brady, and it's remained intact despite recent QBs receiving one extra regular-season game.

J.J. Watt also has a monster defensive stat that has stood for more than a decade.

In 2012, Watt recorded a whopping 39 tackles for loss, while being named Defensive Player of the Year for the first time and earning an All-Pro selection.

In a reminder of how dominant Watt was during his prime, he also ranks second all-time in TFLs with 29 -- and he achieved that number in two separate seasons (2014, '15).

Calvin Johnson's single season receiving yards record of 1,964 with the Detroit Lions in 2012 could be topped this year.

But as of 2023 it still stood tall, despite Cooper Kupp reaching 1,947 in 2021 with the Los Angeles Rams.

LaDainian Tomlinson holds the single season record for most points (186), rushing TDs (28) and games with 200 scrimmage yards (five).

Kyle Goon predicts running back Derrick Henry's upcoming season with the Baltimore Ravens

His 31 total TDs in 2006 are even more impressive, and the San Diego Charger has gone almost 20 years holding that record.

Yet there's one single-season stat that might never be touched again, partly because any QB approaching it would immediately be benched -- on the field and social media.

George Blanda is one of the most interesting players in NFL history.

He played 26 seasons of pro football, the most in history, and split time as a QB and kicker.

Blanda played until he was 48, attempted 959 kicks in his Hall of Fame career, and threw seven TDs in a game.

He also threw 42 interceptions in 1962 with the AFL's Houston Oilers, producing a stat that defies belief 62 years later.

Mahomes threw a career-high 14 picks last season, and still won the Super Bowl MVP.

Manning threw 28 interceptions as a rookie, an eye-popping stat in 1998 that is still far off from Blanda's NFL record 42.

It's hard to imagine anyone getting close to Blanda's 42 INTs again, primarily because howling fans wouldn't allow it.
