Ravichandran Ashwin and Jonny Bairstow were involved in a fiery exchange of words during day four of the second Test.

England collapsed to 194/6 at lunch on day four against India at Visakhapatnam, losing their last two wickets - Zak Crawley and Bairstow - in a span of just five deliveries.

On the last ball before stumps, Jasprit Bumrah bowled a delivery that nipped back in from outside off and trapped Bairstow leg before wicket.

As he took a review, there seemed to be a little war of words between Bairstow and the ace off-spinner Ashwin.

It was noticed by fans on social media too, with one writing on X: "Ashwin is having a go at Bairstow. Where has this come from?"

Another said: "Ashwin comes running in front of Bairstow as he was given OUT!! Bairstow also replies a mouthful.. Heated conversation continued between Ashwin and Bairstow continued as DRS was taken."

Broadcaster Bharat Sundaresan said: "Almost surprised it’s taken this long into their careers for R Ashwin and Jonny Bairstow to have a bit of a go at each other. Always seemed like a very obvious feud in the making."

Ashwin is currently sitting on 499 Test wickets. The next wicket would make him the ninth bowler in the history of the format to reach the landmark. Jimmy Anderson (695) and Nathan Lyon (517) are the other two active bowlers on the list.

Speaking of Anderson, there was an altercation between him and Ashwin earlier in the second day of the Test match.

Anderson seemed to be annoyed by Ashwin stretching his hands at the non-striker’s end. He went on to complain to the umpire about it.
However, he bowled a brilliant delivery to dismiss him for 20.

India continue to close in on victory, needing just three wickets to win the second Test to tie the series 1-1.
