Ben Stokes and England players in complete shock after being fooled by video replay

England felt robbed of a wicket on day two in Ranchi in bizarre circumstances, after they celebrated a Ben Foakes catch that replays showed had fallen short.
Ollie Robinson was bowling to opener Yashisav Jaiswal, with the 22-year-old on 40 when the ball took his outside edge and travelled through to wicketkeeper Ben Foakes.
Neither Foakes nor Robinson appeared convinced that the ball had carried on the full, but Joe Root at slip was convinced as he ran in in celebration.
“It didn’t look right and they weren’t totally convinced,” said former England bowler Darren Gough on talkSPORT 2’s live and exclusive coverage. “Root was [convinced], but he’s behind the ‘keeper. Ollie Robinson wasn’t sure whatsoever.”
There was no debate that Jaiswal had edged the ball, but replays showed that the ball had fallen short.
To everyone’s surprise, however, the England players in the middle celebrated upon seeing the replay on the big screen before their celebrations were cut short when the ‘Not Out’ decision was returned by third umpire Joel Wilson.
“Ben Stokes is fuming, look,” said Gough. “He’s convinced it’s out as well. But it’s clear it didn’t carry.”
It would’ve been a crucial wicket for England, with the series' leading run-scorer Jaiswal going on to make 73.
He has made at least a half-century in every Test match this series and backed up a score of 80 in the first Test at Hyderabad with mammoth innings of 209 and 214 not out in Vizag and Rajkot.
“It has just landed short,” reacted commentator Andrew McKenna. “The little fingers are coming together and closing around it.
“Ben Stokes has both hands over his mouth in disbelief. They were convinced it was going to be given out. When the not out appeared, they were genuinely shocked.”
Television pictures continued to show the images long after the incident happened, but talkSPORT’s Darren Gough was unmoved.
“It still bounced,” Gough laughed. “You can show it as much as you want.”
