Triple European Champion Dina Asher-Smith has her eyes set on gold at 2019 World Championships
The British record holder is looking to build on her medal tally after a stunning week in Berlin
Triple European Champion Dina Asher-Smith is on track to achieving her goal of becoming World Champion in 2019.
Last week the London-born athlete did what no female Britain had done before by winning the European golds in 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay, breaking her own British record for both individual races, as well as running a world leading time for the 100m.
Her treble was described as ‘the performance of a generation’ by UK Athletics performance director, Neil Black.
Asher-Smith has become the nation’s golden girl in sprinting, and her personality is as infectious as her performances.
And in an interview with talkSPORT host Jim White, who said the ‘phenomenal manner of her victory gripped everyone’, she said her next aim is to follow up her European success by racing in the races she has committed to for the rest of the season, and then go for world gold.
The 22-year-old said: "Last year when I finished the World Championships in London and I came fourth after having that broken foot, John [Blackie, her coach] said to me, ‘You know we’re going to rejig our targets’.
"I said, 'What do you mean?' He said, 'We’re going to go for being world champion after this.
"That’s exactly what he told me last year."
