Six Nations: Eddie Jones drops Ben Youngs for Calcutta Cup clash vs Scotland in one of five England changes from France defeat

Eddie Jones has performed major surgery on his England team by making five changes to the side who lost the Six Nations opener vs France.

Leicester Tigers scrum-half Ben Youngs is the most high-profile casualty for the Calcutta Cup clash against Scotland on Saturday, with Willi Heinz selected at 9.

George Furbank keeps his place at full-back despite his nervy afternoon in Paris, with Elliot Daly and Jonny May once again on the wings.

With Manu Tuilagi out injured with a groin issue, Owen Farrell will start again at outside centre, with Jonathan Joseph brought in at 13 and George Ford rewarded for his positive performance against Fabien Galtier's side by starting at fly-half.

The experiment to play flanker Tom Curry as a no.8 continues, with Lewis Ludlam brought in on the blindside alongside Sam Underhill in the back row.

It means Courtney Lawes will drop to the bench, with Saracens duo Maro Itoje and George Kruis operating as the locks, behind a front three which sees Mako Vunipola return after injury.

Joe Marler is cut from the 23-man squad completely, with Ellis Genge on the bench after injecting much-needed drive and determination against the French when he came on last week.

There is no Luke Cowan-Dickie on the bench due to his wife going into labour, so Tom Dunn could make his debut as a replacement, as could uncapped Saracens flanker Ben Earl.

Eddie Jones has opted for a six-two split of forwards and backs on the bench, pointing to a game plan of overpowering Scotland up front.

Magnus Bradbury has returned to the Scotland line-up to face England at Murrayfield on Saturday.

The Edinburgh flanker, who scored in last year's thrilling 11-try Calcutta Cup draw at Twickenham, sat out the Scots' Guinness Six Nations opener with Ireland in Dublin due to a thigh strain.

His recall to Gregor Townsend's team in place of club-mate Nick Haining is the only change to the XV which went down 19-12 at the Aviva Stadium.

Haining drops back to the bench, taking Cornell Du Preez's place, while prop Simon Berghan also comes into the replacements for WP Nel.

Head coach Gregor Townsend said: "We were proud of parts of our performance in Dublin at a very difficult venue. The challenge for the squad is to replicate that level and take our chances when they come, in order to win tight games.

"We were disappointed not to beat Ireland but the opportunity to face England, against whom we are bidding to retain the Calcutta Cup, is one that excites players, coaches and supporters alike.

"England are an excellent team whose run to the Rugby World Cup final was no fluke.

"They will be smarting from their opener in Paris and Eddie [Jones, Head Coach] will have them primed to come to Edinburgh and put in an improved performance.

"This famous fixture is one that stands out given the history surrounding it and we will have to be at our very best to stand a chance of winning against our oldest rivals."
