Commonwealth Games round-up: Gemili has to settle for silver

On day five of the Commonwealth Games English sprinter Adam Gemili was forced to settle for silver in the 100 metres final.
The former footballer, 20, won his semi-final with ease but was beaten to the line by Jamaican Kemar Bailey-Cole who won in 10.00 seconds, with Gemili trailing 0.10 behind.
The Londoner will still be proud though after claiming the first senior medal of his career.
Meanwhile, Sophie Hitchon won bronze out on the field in the hammer with a throw of 68.72 metres, which she made on her final attempt.
In the swimming pool England's Sophie Taylor won gold in the women's 100 metres breaststroke, beating Australia's Lorna Tonks and Jamaica's Alia Atkinson.
Adam Peaty had to make do with silver in the 50m breaststroke as South African world record holder Cameron van der Burgh pipped him to the gold
And England's Adam Barrett won his second bronze of Glasgow 2014 by finishing third in the 100m butterfly
Nick Matthew retained his Commonwealth Games squash title in Glasgow after a feisty five-set final against England team-mate James Willstrop.
World number two Matthew triumphed 11-9 8-11 11-5 6-11 11-5 in a repeat of the final in Delhi, although the manner of his win was markedly different from his straight-sets sweep four years ago.
And world champion Laura Massaro was forced to settle for the silver medal after losing the women's final 12-10 11-2 11-5 to long-time world number one Nicol David of Malaysia.
Michael Gault bowed out of competitive shooting unable to add to his record Commonwealth medal haul but Ken Parr and Caroline Povey did contribute to England's growing tally.
Gault, the 60-year-old grandfather from Norfolk, drew level with Australian shooter Phillip Adams as the most decorated Commonwealth athlete of all time on Saturday but his attempt to win an unprecedented 19th medal ended when he failed to qualify for the 50m air pistol final.
Elsewhere, Chelsea fan Parr showed Fernando Torres how to shoot when he won bronze in the 50m rifle prone.
The 25-year-old from Croydon, a double silver medallist at Delhi four years ago, clinched his third Commonwealth Games medal at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre in Dundee, while out on the shotgun range, Povey claimed bronze in the Olympic trap.
Meanwhile, for the other home nations, Jazz Carlin swept to Wales' first swimming gold medal at Glasgow 2014 as she broke her own Commonwealth Games record in the 800 metres freestyle.
Carlin, who won a silver and bronze in Delhi four years ago, came home more than two seconds ahead of New Zealand's Lauren Boyle in eight minutes 18.11 seconds. Canada's Brittany MacLean took bronze.
And Scotland secured a national record 13th gold medal of Glasgow 2014 on Monday. Victory in the men's pairs bowls as Alex Marshall and Paul Foster hammered Malaysia 20-3 in the final at Kelvingrove put them level before Libby Clegg secured Scotland's first athletics gold of these Commonwealth Games with a T11/12 100 metres victory at a raucous Hampden Park.
