T20 Blast round-up: Hampshire beat Sussex by one run

Hampshire moved off the bottom of the T20 Blast south group by edging past Sussex by one run as Brad Wheal won his last-over duel with veteran New Zealander Ross Taylor.

Sussex looked set to go beyond their opponents' 134 for nine, particularly with Taylor still at the crease, but, needing just five off the final set of six, teenager Wheal kept his cool with the ball, even though his penultimate delivery appeared to stray wide despite not being called by the umpire.

Eoin Morgan top-scored with 43 as Middlesex boosted their hopes of a quarter-final place with a five-wicket win over Somerset at Taunton.

The hosts were bowled out in 19.3 overs for a paltry 137 after winning the toss as their desperately disappointing South Group campaign yielded an eighth defeat. Jim Allenby top-scored with 64, while Toby Roland-Jones claimed three for 24.

Worcestershire Rapids kept alive their slim hopes of also reaching the quarter-finals with a five wicket victory over local rivals Birmingham Bears after some explosive hitting from Ross Whiteley.

The Rapids ended a run of five successive defeats in completed matches and did the double over their neighbours to retain the Norman Gifford Trophy as Whiteley's free scoring enabled them to reach their 165 target with four balls to spare.

Elsewhere, Kent's Daniel Bell-Drummond smashed an unbeaten 112 to ease the Spitfires to an eight-wicket win over Surrey, Nottinghamshire beat Yorkshire by three wickets, Durham beat Northamptonshire by six wickets and Leicestershire overcame Lancashire at Grace Road.
