Warwickshire and Ireland bowler Boyd Rankin suffers big injury blow

Warwickshire and Ireland seamer Boyd Rankin will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his left tibia.

The 32-year-old suffered the injury in training with the Bears and scans have shown he will play no further part this year.

Rankin has not featured for the Warwickshire first team for a month and may be most disappointed by his absence from an exciting set of fixtures for Ireland.

In total he will miss the two-match one-day international series against Pakistan at Malahide, three games with Hong Kong and September's trip to South Africa for ODIs against the Proteas and Australia.

Ireland head coach John Bracewell said: "It's obviously a blow to lose a bowler of Boyd's quality and experience at such a crucial juncture of the season, but these things happen in sport and we wish Boyd a speedy recovery."

Warwickshire director of cricket Dougie Brown added: "It's extremely frustrating to lose Boyd during such a key point in the season. He will now go through a rehabilitation programme with our medical team to rest, strengthen and be ready for our 2017 pre-season schedule."
