England wrap up series with comprehensive win

England thrashed Pakistan by an innings and 225 runs in the npower Fourth Test at Lord’s to take the series 3-1.

On a day overshadowed by allegations of corruption and match fixing among the Pakistani ranks, England put that controversy behind them to wrap up a convincing win and condemn the tourists to their heaviest ever Test defeat.

England needed less than two hours to polish off Pakistan's second innings, with spin king Graeme Swann leading the way with 5-62. There was also a wicket apiece for Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad as the home side added to the tourists' woes.

The day had started in terrible fashion for the Pakistan team when the News of the World revealed details of a spot-fixing scandal when a middle man accepted £150,000 to ensure certain balls in England's first innings were no-balls.

Pace bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, as well as captain Salman Butt, have been named in the allegations and questioned by the Metropolitan Police. All three men had their mobile phones confiscated by Scotland Yard as the investigation continues.
