Indian teenager breaks world record by scoring 1,000 runs in a single innings

Indian teenager Pranav Dhanawade has become the first cricketer ever to score 1,000 runs in an innings.

, the 15-year-old Mumbai schoolboy finished on 1,009 not out while batting for KC Gandhi School in the Bhandri Cup inter-school tournament.

His runs came from only 323 balls, with his team declaring on 1465 for two. He scored 129 fours and 59 sixes during the innings.

His knock - against Arya Gurukul School - helped him surpass the 628 scored by Englishman Arthur Collins in 1899.

Historical scorecards show that Collins - born in India himself - scored 628 of Clark's House's 836 all out against North Town at Clifton College, where a plaque remains to this day commemorating the innings.

Dhanawade's achievements drew praise from India's greatest ever batsman, Sachin Tendulkar.

He Tweeted: "Congrats #PranavDhanawade on being the first ever to score 1000 runs in an innings. Well done and work hard. You need to scale new peaks!"
