England call up Bell for last two Pakistan one-dayers

Ian Bell has been added to England’s squad for the remaining two one-day internationals against Pakistan.

The 28-year-old has not played for England since breaking a bone in his foot while fielding during the second one-day international against Bangladesh earlier this summer.

But after making a successful return to county action and scoring 107 off 95 balls to guide Warwickshire to CB40 glory over Somerset on Saturday, Bell has now been drafted into Andrew Strauss’ squad.

England currently hold a 2-1 lead in the NatWest series, which has been overshadowed by further allegations of spot-fixing relating to Pakistan's 23-run win in Friday's third one-dayer at the Oval.

The series will continue despite the latest claims, with the fourth one-dayer at Lord's on Monday and the final game on Wednesday at the Rose Bowl.

England will then announce their Ashes squad on Thursday, with Bell expected to be selected after his successful return to action following eight weeks out.

"When I did the injury the England guys and the specialists erred on the side of safety," said Bell.

"The surgeon suggested eight weeks off. I probably could have played after seven but was it worth risking ahead of Australia? Probably not.

"Hats off to the ECB [England and Wales Cricket Board], the physio Kirk Russell and Nick Pierce, the doctor, they got it right in terms of giving me enough time but also getting some cricket under my belt."
