St Helens confirm Tommy Lee signing from Salford

St Helens have announced the signing of Salford hooker Tommy Lee on a two-year deal.

The 28-year-old was handed the captaincy ahead of the 2016 Super League season but made only nine appearances in an injury-hit campaign and has now left Salford at the end of his contract.

"Tommy is a versatile player who can play at nine, in the halves and at loose forward, taking pressure off James Roby," said Saints head coach Keiron Cunningham.

"He is experienced too and his leadership and composure will be vital in our young squad as we look to challenge for honours this season."

Lee, who counts Hull, Wakefield and Huddersfield among his former clubs, is St Helens' fifth signing for 2017 following the addition of Matty Smith, Adam Walker, Luke Douglas and Ryan Morgan.
