Referees can take themselves too seriously at times.

Treating grown men like children and over-acting are some of the accusations football referees could be accused of.

But rugby official Nigel Owens showed his sense of fun after a ballboy hit him on the head with a stray ball.

The Welsh referee had kept his cards in his pocket during Leinster’s 45-9 Guinness Pro12 win against Scarlets on Saturday.

A cheeky ballboy, however, forced the official’s hand in the 75th minute as he jokingly branded the child a yellow card for the unexpected head shot.
