Rugby World Cup 2015: Mark Cueto back England to improve after nervy victory over Fiji

Former England wing Mark Cueto has back them to improve after a nervy 35-11 victory over Fiji in the opening game of Rugby World Cup 2015.

Mike Brown helped drag the Red Rose to glory at Twickenham in a game littered with errors.

But Cueto believes, with a tough clash against Wales coming up next Saturday, Stuart Lancaster’s men will put in a more relaxed performance now the first match is out of the way on home soil.

He told the Weekend Sports Breakfast: “The result and the fact we’ve got a bonus point is a huge positive. You’d have bitten anybody’s hand off if they were offering you that pre-match.

“There was a lot to work on, though. It looked a very nervous opening game of a World Cup. There were a lot of errors. There was quite a bit of rain which made it difficult as well.

“Ultimately we’re in a great position because we got the maximum we could out of the game but there is still a huge amount to work on.

“They had a lot of possession but struggled to get points on the board. There were a lot of handling errors.

“You saw a couple of boys like George Ford knock a ball on when someone like him never drops a ball, but I do put it down to World Cup nerves.

“Hopefully a lot of that will settle down now they’ve got that first game under their belt. We’ve got what we wanted but they need to be a bit more clinical with ball in hard.”
