Novak Djokovic's 2022 certainly hasn't got off to the best of starts

The Serbian tennis star was scheduled to be the headline act in this month's Australian Open, but his involvement is now in serious doubt.

He was held at Melbourne Airport for more than eight hours before he was dramatically barred from staying in the country, with Border Officials cancelling his visa.

Djokovic had been given a medical exemption from Covid-19 vaccination rules to compete at the Australian Open but has not made it public what as to the reason why he is exempt or what his vaccination status is.

As a result the 34-year-old has been moved to a quarantine facility as he appeals his deportation from the country.

A nine-time Australian Open champion, Djokovic would be a huge absentee from the competition which gets underway in January 17, but it might not be the only grand slam that he's unable to compete in.

As well as potentially missing the event down under that runs from January 17 to January 31, he could miss two of the remaining three grand slam events.

The Roland Garros French Open is set to take place between May 16 and June 5 in Paris, a competition where current guidelines would not restrict Djokovic from taking part.

France currently don't have any restrictions regarding players entering the country without proof of vaccination which suggests that his involvement wouldn't be an issue.

The same can't be said for Wimbledon and the US Open.

The London event runs from 27 June to 10 July and is regarded by many as the highlight of the tennis calendar.

Under current travel restrictions, anyone coming into the UK must be fully vaccinated in order to be granted access.

It's a similar situation with the US Open at Flushing Meadows which runs from 29 August to 11 September.

As per American rules, non-US citizens must have proof of vaccination in order to enter the States.

Should Djokovic miss the US Open it would also mean that he would miss the Masters events in Miami, Indian Wells and Cincinnati.

With the Serbian looking to secure a record 21st Grand Slam title this year, his current predicament is one that could be prove troublesome if he's to take part in the biggest events on the tennis calendar.
