Tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas sends cheeky invitation to Margot Robbie for ‘favourite actress’ to cheer him on after reaching Australian Open semi-finals

Stefanos Tsitsipas has invited Margot Robbie to cheer him on after booking his place in the Australian Open semi-finals.

Fresh from beating Czech player Jiri Lehecka in straight sets for a place in the final four, the Greek tennis star tested his winning streak by extending a cheeky invitation to the Aussie actor.

Robbie is one of Australia’s most famous exports right now, having risen from a debut role in soap opera Neighbours to become one of the hottest stars in Hollywood.

The Queensland-born 32-year-old actress has worked with some of film’s greatest living directors - including Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino - and also has an ongoing role in the DC Comics superhero universe as Harley Quinn.

But Tsitsipas maybe felt he was on a roll after five straight wins Down Under, and figured he had nothing to lose by making a bold offer for Robbie to come down to Melbourne and watch his next match from the player's box.

The 24-year-old Athens-born star was interviewed by tennis legend and two-time Australian Open champion Jim Courier after the match, who was left stumped by the direction their conversation took.

“Australia is such a great country, I like a lot of Aussie things,” said Tsitsipas

“One of my favourite actresses comes from Australia - Margot Robbie.”

Which drew a big laugh from the crowd in Melbourne.

Courier asked: “Are you pitching right now?”

And he didn’t deny it. In fact, he said it out loud and proud.

“It would be nice to see her over there one day…,” he said, appearing to signal to the player’s box.

Courier added: “So, I want to be crystal clear here, you’re officially extending an invitation to Margot Robbie?”

Tsitsipas, failing to contain his huge smile, replied: “Absolutely!”

God loves a trier.

Her husband of seven years might have something to say about it, though…

The win over Lehecka meant Tsitsipas maintained his unbeaten record in grand slam quarter-finals - making it six from six in the last eight at majors.

The Greek, who along with Novak Djokovic still has a chance of finishing the tournament as the world number one, will take on Karen Khachanov in the semi-finals on Friday.
