Andy Murray starts his bid for Wimbledon glory this week hoping that it won’t be his last time competing in the iconic tournament.

Murray won his last Grand Slam seven years ago and has struggled since, with injuries seriously hampering him towards the end of his career.

The 36-year-old is back in action at SW19 as he prepares for a first round clash against fellow Brit Ryan Peniston.

However, there is no doubt that he will be giving it his all as he eyes an unlikely Grand Slam.

How many Grand Slams has Murray won?

Murray has won a total of three Grand Slams throughout his career.

He has played in 11 Grand Slam finals, winning Wimbledon twice and the US Open once.

His last Grand Slam came in 2016 at SW19 after he beat Milos Raonic 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 in the final on Centre Court.

This was his second Wimbledon title, coming four years after his emotional 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 victory over Novak Djokovic

Murray had the whole of the UK behind him as the country roared in celebration while he fell to the ground in delight.

The Brit’s two Wimbledon titles took his tally up to three Grand Slams as they followed his first-ever major win in 2012.

He lifted the US Open trophy 11 years ago, becoming the first British player to win a Grand Slam since Fred Perry in 1936.

Again it was against Djokovic, with Murray winning 7-6, 7-5, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2 in what was the joint-longest men’s singles US Open final ever.

What has been said?

Murray has claimed that every Grand Slam won by tennis’s 'Big Three', Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, make the fact that he has won three in the same era look greater.

“I know how difficult it is to win a Slam so for these guys (Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer) to win 23, 22 and 20 it’s ridiculous,” Murray said.

“Sometimes I watch them playing matches and I’m like ‘wow, I can’t believe I used to win and compete against them in the biggest matches in the biggest tournaments’.

“In 30 years' time people, who maybe don’t follow tennis that much, will look back and say to me, ‘you won only three Grand Slams’. But each major that these guys win makes the accomplishments that I’ve had against them, and tournaments that I’ve won against them, greater.

“I certainly didn’t win all my matches against them but I won my fair few. I’m proud of what I achieved in what, without question, is the best era of men’s tennis by miles.”
