Caroline Wozniaki announces shock return to tennis after three years and makes fierce vow

Caroline Wozniaki has made a fierce vow ahead of the US Open after announcing that she is ready to return to tennis.

The 32-year-old retired in 2019 but is set to repeal that decision after three years out of the sport.

While Wimbledon is too soon for the Dane, the US Open is in her sights as she looks to return to the Majors.

In June 2021, she gave birth to daughter Olivia and in October 2022, she had a son called James.

And her new life as a mother has made her more determined than ever to return to the court.

"I became a mother and now have two beautiful children I am so grateful for," Wozniacki posted on social media.

"But I still have goals I want to accomplish. We decided as a family it's time. I'm coming back to play and I can't wait.

"I want to show my kids you can pursue your dreams no matter your age or role.

"How long will I be able to play at my highest level—a year, two years, three years?

"I don't know. But I know that five years from now, when the kids are in school, it will be too late."

Wozniacki last lifted silverware in 2018 when she won the Australian Open, however, she has lost twice in the final of the US Open in 2014 and 2009.

The former World No. 1 has made the Canadian Open in August her top target to return to tennis before partaking in the US Open later that month.

"Am I nervous? Not really," she said in an interview with Vogue. "I'm coming back to something I love.

"Can I win the US Open? I think so. Can I win the Australian Open? I think so. That's why I'm doing this. And I guess we'll see what happens.

"If I didn't believe in myself, I wouldn't be doing this: I'm too competitive to just show up and not feel like I'm going to be one of the best players out there."

Wozniacki has won 30 tour-level titles, including her victory over Simona Halep in three sets at the 2018 Australian Open final.

However, Wimbledon remains something of a hoodoo for the Odense-born star.

She has reached the last 16 on six occasions but never progressed any further.
