He has now won the second Grand Slam title of his career following US Open success last year.

Djokovic took the first set with ease as he looked to equal Roger Federer's record of eight Wimbledon titles.

Alcaraz then fought back in the second, and did so by winning the tiebreak 8-6.

The third set was arguably the best of the lot, with both players' qualities on full show on Centre Court.

With Alcaraz winning 3-1, the fifth game went on for a staggering 26 minutes, with the Spaniard breaking at the seventh time of asking.

Djokovic appeared to concede the set but proved too strong in the fourth to set up an enticing finale.

The pressure appeared to be getting to him though as he smashed his racket against the net post after losing his serve.

Alcaraz was then able to hold onto his nerve and seal a stunning victory in his third appearance at Wimbledon.

He fell to the floor as Djokovic hit the net in the deciding point before embracing his team in the stands.

It's the first time in 21 years that the competition has not been won by either Djokovic, Federer, Nadal or Andy Murray.

Alcaraz put on a superb display of tennis and proved why is considered to be one of the sport's next big stars.

The Spaniard could very well go on and claim a second US Open title in September to continue a fine 2023.

Djokovic on the other hand fought well in the contest but was ultimately unable to charge onto victory.

Despite his shortcomings, he was able to take the match to the fifth and final set against an exciting talent in Alcaraz.
