Laver Cup 2023: How it works

The Laver Cup is tennis’ equivalent to the Ryder Cup.

Across the three days, two teams of six (Team Europe and Team World) compete against each other across singles and doubles matches.

Points are gained for every win and the first team to reach 13 points will win the tournament.

On the first day a win is worth one point but increases each day.

Winners receive two points on the second day and then three on the third.

Once a team reaches 13 points, no more games are played and they are crowned champions.

Each match is the best of three sets with a 10-point tiebreaker taking place instead of a third set if a decider is needed.

Each player must play one singles match in the opening two days while four of the six team members must feature in at least one doubles game with the same pairing not allowed to be used twice.
