Stefanos Tsitsipas delivered a mind-blowing winner, leaving opponent Zizou Bergs speechless and fans buzzing over potential shot of the year.

The 25-year-old Greek star defeated Bergs 5-7, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 in the first round of the Australian Open at the Rod Laver Arena on Monday.

Though it was his unconventional winner in the second set, responding to his opponent's volley, which left fans in stunned silence.

As Bergs hit a shot that barely went over the net, and span back over to his side, Tsitsipas reached over and slapped it away without touching the net.

It was a very tough shot, but he pulled it off perfectly for one of the shots of the tournament so far.

Bergs looked on, and his reaction said it all, turning away with his hand over his mouth in disbelief at what he had just witnessed.

The International Tennis Federation Rule 24, states: "Your racquet can cross the net as long as it never touches it.

"This does not mean you can just start reaching across the net to hit balls before they come to your side. Before you can hit a return, the ball must first cross over the net to your side of the court."

Speaking of his shot following the win, Tsitsipas said: "That shot was extraordinary; I don't know how I even got that shot.

"I thought for a split-second when he hit the underspin volley that that was it, I would have to prepare for the next point.

"But I guess not wanting to give up and just giving it a try gave me that point, which I believe turned around the match in that particular moment today."

World No.7. Tsitsipas was due to play Matteo Berrettini, who withdrew from the clash due to injury.

It means the Italian has now missed four of the last eight grand slams with a right foot injury.
