Wimbledon has seen its fair share of tantrums over the years but Andrey Rublev may have just taken the top prize for 2024... on day two.

The sixth seed reacted furiously after making an error that cost him a key point in his first round defeat to Argentine Francisco Comesana.

With the score at one set apiece, sixth seed Rublev hit a wayward shot that allowed Comesana to break his serve and go 4-1 up to take control of the third set.

After his shot went out of bounds, the 26-year-old lost his cool in dramatic fashion and smashed his racket on his knee six times before shouting furiously and hitting himself again.

Unfortunately for Rublev, his emotions got the better of him with Comesana progressing into the second round with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 score.

Andy Stevenson, BBC's Wimbledon commentator, said: "Well we have seen some overreactions at this year's Wimbledon but that’s extraordinary from Rublev and it’s because the man who is playing in his second-ever grass court match is 4-1 up on him on the third set.

Ex-tennis player Dom Inglot added: "I think Rublev might need some medical attention to his knee after that outburst," to which Stevenson replied: "I mean, he is unravelling in front of our eyes."

While Rublev's furious outburst left fans at the All-England Club shocked, it's not the first time that the Russian's anger has got the better of him.

Competing in the French Open earlier this year, Rublev lost his temper as he was eliminated in the third round by Matteo Alnardi.

After the defeat in Paris, Rublev said: "Completely disappointed with myself the way I behaved, the way I performed.

"I think it was first time I ever behave that bad.

"The way I behave I put myself completely down, and I give Matteo wings to fly, and he was flying third set unbelievable. It was too late to do something."

Russian Rublev fell to a 6-4 5-7 6-2 7-6 (7-5) defeat with Comesana facing Australian Adam Walton in the second round.
