Jannik Sinner makes instant Daniil Medvedev prediction after reaching US Open quarter final

Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev will go head-to-head in what the former has described as a ‘tough’ quarter final US Open clash.
The world no.1 beat Tommy Paul in the round of 16, pulling off a 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5), 6-1 win at Flushing Meadows, whilst world no. 5 Medvedev hammered Portuguese star Nuno Borges 6-0, 6-1, 6-3.
The pair are the only Grand Slam winners left gunning for the men’s single title, with no. 2 Novak Djokovic and no. 3 Carlos Alcarz both eliminated early.
And Sinner has already recognised just how difficult facing Medvedev on Wednesday will be.
He said: “Tough match. It’s gonna be a lot of rallies. Hopefully I’ll be ready physically. It’s gonna be a physical and mental match.
“I won in Australia. He won in Wimbledon... both in 5 sets. Hopefully it will be a good match. We’ll try to do our best on court.
“Hopefully you guys enjoy it and we’ll see how it goes.”
Sinner is the only men’s player to reach the quarter finals or better of every Grand Slam this season.
But the Italian has only got as far as the quarter-finals at the US Open, whilst his Russian opponent won the competition in 2021, the same year as Emma Raducanu.
Medvedev is 7-5 against Sinner.
He most recently won a five-set thriller between the pair in the quarter final of Wimbledon.
The 28-year-old isn't resting on his laurels, though.
“Hopefully we can have a great match,” Medvedev said after his round of 16 clash.
“I know if I want to beat him, I need to be at my best, which I managed to do couple of times.
“It's going to be a great match.”
British tennis star Jack Draper has also made it through to the quarter finals.
He will face Australia Alex de Minaur on Wednesday too.
