Ivanovic, Rush, Robson and more: when football takes a long hard look at itself!

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has told his Chelsea team-mates they should take a long hard look at themselves after last weekend's embarrassing 5-3 defeat to Arsenal, following a fine football tradition of, well, taking a long hard look at one's self.
The Blues had never conceded five goals at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League and the Serbia international said: "No words were needed after the Arsenal game because every one of us has to look in the mirror and be honest about how we played defensively."
Now, for the first time and almost certainly last time, talkSPORT presents football's "long hard look" round-up…
ROBSON: "Arsene Wenger HAS GOT TO TAKE A LONG HARD LOOK AT HIMSELF" - SEPTEMBER 2011
Former Gunners midfielder Stewart Robson ordered Arsene Wenger to "take a long, hard look at himself for a longer period than just this season" or risk finishing outside the top six in the Premier League. Arsenal had endured a torrid start to the campaign, taking just four points from five games. So, did Arsene take a long hard look at himself? Perhaps he did - the Gunners have since won five of their six league fixtures and they're only three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
ABERDEEN CHAIRMAN: "EVERYONE AT THE CLUB NEEDS TO TAKE A LONG HARD LOOK AT THEMSELVES" - SEPTEMBER 2011
Aberdeen Chairman Stewart Milne reacted to the club's shock League Cup exit at home to East Fife in September by supporting manager Craig Brown and suggesting: "Everyone at the club needs to take a long hard look at themselves, at the preparation ahead of games, what we could do differently and how we can improve." The Dons lost their next game 1-0 at Motherwell but recovered to thrash Dunfermline 4-0 a week later. We reckon they took a long hard at themselves in between those two fixtures.
MARK KENNEDY: "IPSWICH PLAYERS NEED TO TAKE A LONG HARD LOOK AT THEMSELVES."
Experienced winger Kennedy ordered team-mates to "take a long hard look at themselves" after a 7-1 drubbing at Peterborough in August which left them fifth from bottom in the Championship after four games. It seems the Tractor Boys took heed of the former Irish international's wise words as they now sit comfortably in mid-table, although last weekend's 4-1 defeat at Millwall could mean another long hard look before the busy Christmas period.
IAN RUSH: "LIVERPOOL'S UNDERACHIEVERS SHOULD TAKE A LONG HARD LOOK AT THEMSELVES." - DECEMBER 2009
Anfield hero Ian Rush responded to Liverpool's Premier League defeat to Portsmouth, their seventh of the 2009/10 campaign, by recommending the club's underperforming stars take "a long hard look at themselves" or risk losing out on Champions League qualification. Unfortunately the Reds went on to lose another four games and finished seventh, their lowest position in more than a decade. At which point they really needed to take a long, hard look at themselves.
DAVE JONES: "ANDREW COLE NEEDS TO TAKE A LONG HARD LOOK AT HIMSELF" - APRIL 2008
After a 3-3 draw between Burnley and Cardiff, Bluebirds manager Jones accused former Man United striker Cole of getting Darren Purse sent-off: "It's the reaction of the player which has got Darren sent off. I will be appealing against the decision. Darren has over played the ball but he has not tried to do him. Andrew Cole needs to take a long hard look at himself."
ANDREW COLE: "DAVE JONES SHOULD TAKE A LONG HARD LOOK AT HIMSELF" - APRIL 2008
Without contemplating Jones' advice, Cole hit back by telling Cardiff's manager it was he who should be doing such things: "I have 10 stitches in my leg. I have played the game at the highest level for 18 years and some muppet tries to challenge me like that. It's Dave Jones who should take a long hard look at himself. After the career I have had, what he thinks is irrelevant." There is no evidence confirming that either Jones or Cole took long hard looks at themselves, but a dressing room source revealed they did take a long hard look at each other after the game.
