The player admitted to talkSPORT that he would love a switch to Arsenal in particular, but will the Gunners answer his plea?

Did you know?

1) Holtby holds dual English and German nationality through his father Chris, a former soldier from Liverpool who was stationed in Monchengladbach. The midfielder supports his dad's team, Everton.

2) He had hoped to progress through the youth ranks of Borussia Monchengladbach, but in a move that they must now regret, the side released him due to his small stature and lack of pace.

3) Holtby gained the nickname 'lucky Lewis' in Germany after his stellar breakthrough performances for Schalke in 2009.

4) Holtby captained Germany's U-21 side for the first time in friendly against Italy in 2011, scoring two goals.

5) Despite playing for Germany at youth level, Fabio Capello reportedly attempted to convince Holtby to opt for England ahead of his country of birth. In the end, the midfielder made his first full international appearance for Joachim Low's Germany on 7 June 2011, and narrowly missed out on their Euro 2012 squad.

They say:
“The pass he played alone was worth the entrance fee! He played it at exactly the right moment.” Germany coach Joachim Low after watching Holtby provide an assist against Hoffenheim

He says:
“I've always said that my aim is to come to the Premier League one day. It would be a massive move [to Arsenal] because Arsenal players were always my favourite.”
