What's the latest?
The latest South American star to be heading to Stamford Bridge, Cristian Cuevas' signature is something of a minor coup for Chelsea, with the Chilean wide-man regarded as one of the most promising midfield talents in world football. It is thought that he will not join up with his new team-mates until the summer, but if the buzz surrounding the 17-year-old is to be believed, then the Blues have certainly signed an exciting talent.

Did you know?
1) Despite being just 17 years old, Cristian Cuevas is regarded as one of Chile's finest talents, most notably garnering praised from fans and pundits during the recent U20 South American Championships, in which he inspired La Rojitas to four victories to ensure qualification for this summer's U20 FIFA World Cup.

2) His rapid development at club side O'Higgins and for Chile's U20s caught the eye of a number of European sides, with Chelsea jumping the queue by offering Cuevas a trial in December, which the player described as the 'best week of my life'. With Italian side Udinese rumoured to be considering a move for the wide-man, the Blues stepped up their interest, and have now snapped him up in a deal reportedly worth £3.4m.

3) Cuevas is nicknamed 'Cimbi' due to his resemblance to Simba from The Lion King, but in truth he is anything but timid. He made his debut for club side O'Higgins at the age of 16, but it is at international level he has impressed the most despite being Chile's youngest player in their U20s squad.

4) He has been likened to Angel Di Maria both in terms of stature and ability on the ball. Similar to the Real Madrid wide-man, Cuevas possesses the quality to breeze past opposition defenders at ease, and boasts tremendous balance and pace, making him an extremely difficult player to cope with.

5) Despite being left-footed, Cuevas is equally adept on his right, and appears to have a tendency to cut inside and shoot. However, it is on the left that he is at his best, and has been described as a traditional wide player who isn't afraid to get chalk on his boots. While he is unlikely to threaten Chelsea's current midfield stars, he certainly will offer the Blues another option in years to come.

He says
“Everything was resolved within a week. Chelsea has been with me for over a year and we finally reached an agreement” - Cristian Cuevas on his move to Chelsea
