Transfer targets: Isaiah Brown, Luke Shaw and the home-grown stars all the top Premier League clubs want

England may have disappointed again on Tuesday, scraping a 1-1 draw with Montenegro, but there is reason to be optimistic about the future of the national team – with a number of talented English teenagers coming through the ranks. talkSPORT takes a look at six of the most in-demand starlets in the country right now…

Name: Isaiah Brown
Club: West Brom
Age: 16
An attacking midfielder - and a terrific athlete - Brown made such an impression for the club's Under-21 side that he was called into Steve Clarke’s first-team squad, winning a place on the bench for the game against Chelsea last month. Brown, who would have become the youngest player in Premier League history had he entered the fray at Stamford Bridge, is yet to sign a professional contract with the Baggies and is reportedly attracting attention from Chelsea and Arsenal.

Name: Foday Nabay
Club: Birmingham
Age: 14
It was widely reported last summer that Manchester City were willing to offer Nabay, described as a box-to-box midfielder, the most attractive package for a 13-year-old ever in British football, in a bid to land his signature. Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United were also keen to take the Sierra Leone-born youngster before he eventually decided to stay put at St Andrew's. A year later, having played for England Under-16s and become a permanent fixture in Birmingham’s Under-18s team, Nabay remains one of the most sought-after teenagers in the game.

Name: Will Hughes
Club: Derby County
Age: 17
A composed midfielder who is said to model his game on Barcelona pair Xavi and Andres Iniesta, Hughes broke into the Derby first-team at the start of this season and played 35 consecutive matches for Nigel Clough’s men before picking up an injury in February. Hughes - already capped at England Under-21 level - has been regularly watched by Manchester City scouts this season and is also being courted by Arsenal and Tottenham.

Name: Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Club: Chelsea
Age: 17
According to a media report at the weekend, Loftus-Cheek’s first professional contract was the largest ever awarded by Chelsea for a home-grown junior player. Without even breaking into the first-team, the Lewisham-born midfielder is set to bank more than £1.7m before his 20th birthday. That shows just how highly he is rated at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues said to be fearful of interest from Manchester United and Spanish giants Barcelona.

Name: Luke Shaw
Club: Southampton
Age: 17
Rated as one of the best prospects in English football, Shaw has been a revelation for his newly-promoted side this season. The technically-gifted left-back made his Premier League debut in November and has gone on to make over 20 appearances. Despite agreeing a new long-term contract with the Saints, Shaw is still being linked with a big-money move away from St Mary’s. Chelsea are said to see Shaw as the perfect successor to Ashley Cole, while Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is also understood to have identified the young defender as a top target.

Name: Max Clayton
Club: Crewe Alexandra
Age: 18
Likened to Michael Owen, the pacey striker looks certain to follow Manchester United signing Nick Powell in graduating through the ranks at Gresty Road and earning a move to the top-flight. Clayton has represented England from Under-16 through to Under 19-level and has been watched by scouts from United, Liverpool and Newcastle. Arsenal were also linked with a £3million swoop for the young forward in January.
