It was a huge week for sport as the British and Irish Lions squad was announced, while the Champions League semi-final second legs were contested between the crème of Spain and Germany.

In the Premier League, Aston Villa hosted Sunderland in a crunch relegation clash, bringing an abrupt end to Paolo Di Canio's honeymoon as Black Cats boss, and Chelsea ensured that they were on course for an historic achievement, by reaching their second successive European final.
