Proof that Szczesny is WRONG about Tottenham and the Champions League race

Wojciech Szczesny's assertion that Tottenham “do not have enough quality” to finish in the top four has added an extra edge to their pivotal clash with Chelsea on Wednesday evening.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, the Arsenal goalkeeper claimed that the Gunners are in pole position to grab a Champions League spot commenting that: “If we win our next two games it will be enough as either Chelsea or Spurs will drop points as they play each other.”

He is right that at least one of Chelsea or Spurs will drop points, but he needs to look again at the table.

As it currently stands, Spurs are in fifth spot, two points behind bitter rivals Arsenal, with a game in hand. Chelsea are above the Gunners, also with a game in hand.

While defeat at Stamford Bridge for Tottenham may effectively end their pursuit for Champions League football, victory would leave Arsenal in fifth, with two games left for each club.

Admittedly, a win for Spurs is the least likely result at Stamford Bridge, but Szczesny needs to get his calculator out. Just in case he needs it spelling out, below you'll see the table as it stands and how it could look if Spurs win on Wednesday.
