Exclusive – Moyes refuses to rule out Liverpool ground share

Everton boss David Moyes has admitted his club would have to consider sharing a ground with Liverpool if it was the best way forward.

Ray Houghton told talkSPORT last week that the two Merseyside giants might have to share a stadium and Moyes has refused to rule out the possibility.

He told Drivetime: "It’s probably something that if you ask people up here no-one would really want it. Who really wants to share a ground with their neighbours?

"But from our point of view we need something new to get some more investment in. There is a limit to what we can get at Goodison.

"It can only take in a certain amount of money. We’ve got very few boxes so we’ve got very little corporate, so I wouldn’t say we would be definitely for it but, in the same breath, we’d be very interested if we got an opportunity to do it.

"I don’t know if that’s how Liverpool would view it."

Everton and Liverpool meet at Goodison on Sunday lunchtime and Moyes insists his team will be ready for the challenge, despite some high-profile absentees.

He added: "We go into the game with a lot of people missing but I don’t want to talk too much about that because I don’t want people to think we’re using that as an excuse.

"I think we’ve got a really good team at Everton and it will be a good open game and hopefully we’ll come out on top."

And Moyes doesn't believe Liverpool's players will have been upset by the off-field circus that has surrounded the club this week.

"I don’t think the takeover chaos will affect Liverpool," he continued. "If anything it might help them because it’s taking the tension off the team and the focus has all been on the High Court drama."
