'The Evolution of football' is special series of eight episodes looking at a number of different aspects of modern football and speaks to some of the biggest names in the game to discover how football has evolved into the global phenomenon that it has become now.

This week we're joined by Blackburn Rovers manager, Sam Allardyce. The former Bolton man talks us through the evolution of football managers. Having started his British managerial career at Blackpool he progressed through the ranks of Notts County and Bolton Wanderers before emerging as the boss of Newcastle United.

He suffered a torid time at St James' Park but bounced back to keep Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League after they looked far from safe. Having lived and worked through this period in football few are better placed to describe the changes he's faced.
