Robbo quits England

Blackburn Rovers () goalkeeper Paul Robinson has retired from international football having just been named in the squad by Fabio Capello.

The former Leeds United keeper was set to feature in the squad that will play Hungry in a friendly at Wembley on Wednesday.

However, the 30-year-old has called time on his international career after winning 41 caps for his country.

Robinson has stated that he now wants to concentrate on playing for Rovers after being given limited opportunities with the Three Lions in recent years.

He said: “I’ve taken the decision to retire from international football with immediate effect.

“As a professional who wants every chance to play football, I do not see myself as No.3 or 4 goalkeeper.”

“I find that role very frustrating. I haven’t had the opportunity to be anything other than this in recent years,” he added.

Robinson will now look ahead to the Premier League campaign with Rovers aiming to push higher up the table this season.

Blackburn () face a tough opening game in the league when they face Everton at Ewood Park on August 14.
