Kansas (4) vs Gonzaga (5) betting preview
After leading 48-38 at halftime, Samford made it interesting against Kansas, but ultimately, Kansas, without Kevin McCullar Jr., pulled out a win. Thankfully, they had Hunter Dickinson in the lineup, who not only scored 19 points but had 20 rebounds and five assists. KJ Adams Jr. led the way with 20 points, while Dajuan Harris Jr. added 13, Johnny Furphy scored 16, and Nicolas Timberlake scored 19. The Jayhawks didn’t have much depth, but they pulled through, shooting 60.3% from the field and winning the rebound battle 44-35. This all game while turning the ball over 18 times.
As for Gonzaga, they handled McNeese State relatively easily. They were up 48-25 at the half, but McNeese did outscore them 40-38 in the second. Of course, the lead was too massive, and Gonzaga pulled away. Five players had double-digit points, including Anton Watson, Graham Ike, Ben Gregg, Nolan Hickman, and Dusty Stromer. They shot 51.7% from the field, 47.6% from three-point range, won the rebound battle by 12, and held McNeese to just 33.3% shooting from the floor and 22.7% from beyond the arch.

Kansas vs Gonzaga analysis
McCullar Jr. is out for the year, so we’ll get the team we saw on the court for Kansas. It’s going to run through Dickinson for the remainder of the season. A few things stick out in the stat sheet, but the main one is Timberlake scoring 19. This season, he averaged 5.1 points per game, so it’s hard to imagine that we can rely on him moving forward to produce at that level. Additionally, Dickinson had 20 rebounds. Yes, he’s a double-double threat, having averaged one this season, but that’s a tall task to expect him to continue to replicate.
Gonzaga isn’t a team with that massive superstar like we’re used to, and their rotation is not much more than their starting five. Still, we’ll be expecting a Kansas team, without their best scorer, to match a team that scores from multiple places and out-rebounds them per game. The loss of McCullar Jr. hurts, and there are simply some players we can’t trust to repeat their performance from the Round of 64.
Kansas vs Gonzaga pick
Kansas managed to hold on and beat Samford, but they did so with unexpected players scoring and shooting 60.3% from the field. Gonzaga and Kansas are both solid defensive teams, as they both hold teams to just under 41% from the field. However, without McCullar Jr., Gonzaga is the more reliable offense, and they have one less player, a guy who averages 18 points per game, to worry about.
