The matchup features the No. 2 Eagles and No. 4 Rams. The Eagles defeated the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round 22-10, while the Rams demolished the Minnesota Vikings 27-9.

The Eagles and Rams played earlier this season on Nov. 24 in Los Angeles. The Eagles came out ahead 37-20.

Washington Commanders vs. Detroit Lions predictions

Interestingly enough, this matchup, at least statistically, is similar for the Commanders in that the Lions are a team that allows a lot of passing yardage production but has been stout against the run.

They give up just 98.4 rushing yards (fifth) and 244 passing yards (30th) per game.

Conversely, the Commanders hold down passing attacks but allow a lot of rushing yardage production.

They allow 189.5 passing yards (third) and 137.5 rushing yards (30th).

As you may know, the Lions have ample injuries on the defensive side of the ball. Part of their “run defense” is somewhat cloaked in their offense, which is arguably the best in the league that teams need to throw to contend.

I don’t think the Commanders can handle all their weapons, but they won’t be pushovers.

Where I’m most concerned for the Commanders is their run defense.

The Lions will have running back David Montgomery back in the lineup, and the lethal duo of him and Jahmyr Gibbs will be hard to stop.

Their rushing attack could drain the clock, but I trust the Commanders pass defense and offense to keep this within nine.

Washington Commanders vs. Detroit Lions pick

My bet for this game is the Commanders +9.5.

They may not have many notable names on offense besides Terry McLaurin, but quarterback Jayden Daniels has played like a borderline top-five quarterback in the NFL this season.

The Commanders held Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield under 200 passing yards.

I think the Lions will crack it a bit more than that, but with them turning more toward the run and Daniels converting first downs with his legs, I’ll take the Lions to win, but by a margin of 31-24.
