Liverpool v Arsenal in a fight for South American midfield ace – Transfer Spotlight

Versatile Juve midfielder Mauricio Isla could be on his way to England, after reports emerged that Arsenal and Liverpool are tracking the Chilean. Isla's agent has made it clear that he will look for new ventures this summer due to a lack of game time in Turin, and it looks like the two Premier League sides could have competition from Spain. talkSPORT's Transfer Spotlight has the latest...

Date of birth: 6 December, 1988
Birthplace: Buin, Chile
Position: Right wing-back/central midfield

What's the latest?
Isla joined Juventus last summer after a successful five-year spell with Udinese, but has struggled to find a place in his new team, with plenty of competition in the wingback positions. That appears to have put the Chilean off staying in Turin past this summer, and his agent has made it clear that he needs to play regular football ahead of the 2014 World Cup. That could work in Liverpool and Arsenal's favour, though Isla's representative also claims two major Spanish clubs are interested.

Did you know?

1) Isla began his career at Universidad Catolica in his native Chile, where he started out as a striker, and was later used as a centre-back.

2) The Chilean moved to Udinese in 2007, making his debut in December of that year. In the 2008/09 season he became a starting player for the Italians, taking part in 43 games for them in all competitions. In his final season with Udinese, Isla helped them to finish third in Serie A behind Juventus and Milan.

3) Various major clubs were linked with Isla in the summer of 2012, including Real Madrid, Manchester United and Barcelona, but Juventus succeeded, paying €9.4m for his services. He made his Juve debut in their away draw against Chelsea in the Champions League.

4) Isla has played 28 games in all competitions for Juventus, but started only eight in Serie A, falling out of favour with manager Antonio Conte. He has managed to pick up three assists for the Old Lady, with two in the Champions League and one in the Italian league.

5) The Chilean gained plaudits for his performances with his nation's U20 side, and was eventually handed his senior Chile debut by Marcelo Bielsa in 2007. He was made 37 appearances for his country to date, including playing all four of their games at the 2010 World Cup.

They say
We are not satisfied with how Juventus have dealt with him this season. We've already let the Turin club know our opinions. His priority for next season is to be a protagonist, because it's a World Cup year, a very important objective for him. There are offers from some of the biggest Italian clubs, but we're not lacking bids from abroad either.” Isla's agent Claudio Vagheggi.
