The pair were facing off in a no-disqualification match recorded for Rampage at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Texas.

Towards the end of the contest, Guevara went up to the top rope and attempted a shooting star press on a prone Hardy.

The high-risk manoeuvre holds a fearsome reputation and infamously almost proved fatal for Brock Lesnar when he suffered a concussion by landing on his neck performing it during his match with Kurt Angle at WrestleMania XIX.

Guevara's version started smoothly but he adjusted his body mid-air as Hardy raised his knees to counter.

He tweeted: "The word from within AEW is that Jeff Hardy suffered a broken nose last night but not a concussion."

The incident made fans online furious, with this not being the first time the ‘Spanish God’ has injured a Hardy.

Matt Hardy needed 13 stitches to his head after being on the end of a botched chair shot from Guevara in August 2020.

A month later at AEW All Out Hardy suffered another nasty head injury clashing with Guevara that saw him taken to hospital.

Three-time former AEW TNT Champion Guevara had only just returned from injury himself and had recently claimed he would be more cautious with his high-flying moves now that he is a parent.

Speaking on the  podcast, he said: "It's pretty cool for sure and now it's got me thinking differently just in wrestling.

"Because I'm used to doing all the 'I'm Crazy ' stuff but now I'm like, yeah, I guess I can't be that crazy anymore… I don't know if we're going to dial it back but I think we'll be more selective with how and when we do the crazy stuff."

Hardy meanwhile continues to suffer a stop-start career in AEW having joined in 2022 after being released by WWE the year before.

The high-flyer joined Matt in the upstart company with the Hardy Boyz influence remaining strong nearly three decades on from their debut.

Tottenham's Brennan Johnson replicated the duo's signature celebration after scoring the winner in the club's 2-1 win over Brighton.

He said: "And the celebration is actually, if anyone watches WWE, Jeff Hardy my favourite WWE superstar, so yeah that one's for him."
