Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy have opened talks with WWE over a return to to the promotion, according to reports.

Negotiations between the brothers and the promotion where they made their name began earlier this week after the stars' contracts with TNA Impact Wrestling expired.

And according to wrestling news website , it is "looking good" that the super-popular stars - leading lights of the Attitude Era thanks to their innovative matches with the likes of Edge and Christian and the Dudley Boyz - will join up with WWE once again.

Former ECW, US, Cruiserweight and Hardcore champ Matt, 42, left WWE in October 2010 and ex three time World champion Jeff, 39, wrestled his last match - a Loser Leaves WWE cage match against CM Punk - for the company in August of the previous year. As a team they held WWE's tag belts on six occasions.

Since then, both have had multiple World championship and tag team reigns with Impact - and completely reinvented their wresting personas as 'Broken' Matt and Brother Nero in a series of offbeat, critically-acclaimed sketches.

During an Inside The Ropes spoken word tour of the UK last November, Matt indicated he intended to continue performing as his outlandish character, whichever promotion he appears for.

He said: "[It] is something I am in 100% control of, wherever I go - for the time being - and probably for the remainder of my in ring career it will be my 'Broken Universe'.

"No one is going to stop that. Not [Impact parent company] Anthem, not [former TNA figurehead] Dixie Carter, not [former TNA president] Billy Corgan, not a McMahon, not a Joe Koff of Ring of Honor... no one is going to stop that."

Matt, who has teased on social media that SmackDown champion Bray Wyatt is in his sights, added: "There are many, many more thiings Brokem Matt has left to do before leaving the scene of professional wrestling."

Both stars are still scheduled to appear for Ring of Honor during Wrestlemania 33 weekend opposite the Young Bucks.
