SummerSlam results – Brock escapes carnage as five new champions are crowned

Brock Lesnar escaped his biggest test yet to remain WWE Universal Champion in a chaotic Fatal-Four-Way battle last night at SummerSlam.
In a match that had the Barclays Center in raptures The Beast incarnate survived an opening onslaught from Braun Strowman to see off The Monster Among Men, Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe to retain his Universal Championship. Strowman was easily the bout’s MVP, crashing Lesnar not once, but twice through announce tables with his running powerslam, before tipping a third table over the champ and seemingly eliminating him from the match by way of a stretcher. However, Lesnar returned later in the match to get the better of the other three behemoths and pin Reigns to keep hold of his Universal crown.
It was a night of new champions in Brooklyn as FIVE new WWE Champions were crowned. The trend started early on the kick-off show as Neville won back his Cruiserweight Championship off Akira Tozawa before The Usos and The New Day almost stole the whole show with another epic tag team encounter that saw The Usos take the SmackDown straps off Big E and Xavier Woods.
There new women’s champions across both brands after Natalya made Naomi tap out to the Sharpshooter to nab the SmackDown title, while Sasha Banks finally ended Alexa Bliss’ Raw reign thanks to a Banks Statement on the Goddess of WWE. Yet, perhaps the most pleasing switch of the night came as Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose dusted off their Shield chemisty to best Sheamus and Cesaro and win the Raw Tag Team titles in one the most invested matches of the night.
There were some champions who did come out of SummerSlam unscathed. Jinder Mahal used his insurance policy of The Singh Brothers to see off Shinsuke Nakamura in a clunky WWE Title match and AJ Styles finally put Kevin Owens to rest amid Shane McMahon shenanigans to retain is US strap.
Elsewhere, Finn Balor donned the Demon to beat Bray Wyatt, John Cena opened the show and saw off Baron Corbin, Randy Orton downed Rusev in a matter of seconds and Big Cass beat The Big Show in a somewhat forgettable Shark tank led victory.
