All Elite Wrestling wants CM Punk – and he was their first choice signing ahead of Chris Jericho

AEW made a big splash when they lured Chris Jericho to the new promotion, but president Tony Khan wanted CM Punk as his main man

Not many fans really believed that CM Punk would make a return to wrestling after his exit from WWE in 2014.

And yet, over the weekend, it appeared that the former WWE champion had made an appearance at an independent show under a mask - and it's reportedly not his first.

At 40-years-old and given his well-documented issues with the WWE, it's unlikely that The Best in the World - no, not Shane McMahon - would ever return to the big time.

But, what about All Elite Wrestling?

Punk is known to be good friends with several members of the AEW roster and has done some appearances with them. Could he be tempted?

According to , AEW owner Tony Khan wanted Punk above anyone else and would pay major money for him.

“If (CM Punk) wants to wrestle, he was Tony Khan’s first pick before Jericho, before the Young Bucks, before anyone. If he wants to wrestle he can wrestle and make very good money if that’s what he wants.â€

It's safe to say that if Punk wanted to return, he would have by now and AEW would be the perfect place for him. Limited schedule, people he trusts and major money - it all makes sense.

Khan is known to be a lifelong fan and followed Punk during his days in the Ring of Honor.

Whether he can tempt Punk at this point or not is the real question. The Chicago-native has had a 0-2 UFC career since his WWE days but he could still be a big draw for a wrestling company.
