CM Punk returns and joins WWE Backstage as The Best in the World tells fans ‘I’ll see you next week’

After five years away from the company, CM Punk sparked the working relationship with WWE again when he appeared on WWE Backstage.

'The Best in the World' made a grand entrance at the end of Tuesday night's show and revealed he will appear in full next week.

"Just when they think they know all the answers, I change the culture. I'll see you all next week."

In the unannounced appearaance, the five-time world champion arrived during the show’s final moments, entering to the sounds of Living Colour’s 'Cult of Personality,' his entrance music during his in-ring career.

Of course, this doesn't mean he will wrestle again. Technically, he is being employed by FOX and the broadcaster revealed Punk will be a periodical guest on the show moving forward.

However, just like when 2K worked with Goldberg and Kurt Angle and they ended up making wrestling returns to the company, Punk wouldn't have got this gig with FOX without WWE giving the green light.

Kofi Kingston talks losing his WWE title to Brock Lesnar

As early as September, there were rumours he had joined Booker T and Renee Young for a secret screen test of the show, which was denied.

He has been linked with AEW, but even Cody Rhodes, earlier this year, expressed his belief he'd return to WWE and rumours have never gone away.

A betting man would certainly say Punk has not had his last wrestling match and the call-outs for him to get back in the squared circle will be stronger than ever.

At 41 years old and now a few years removed from his last MMA fight, the timing seems perfect for 'Voice of the Voiceless' to return.

Having spent 434 days with the WWE Championship, Punk left WWE in 2014 slap bang in the middle of WrestleMania season feeling burned out.

He signed with UFC later that year and in four years he managed two UFC fights, losing both. He has been commentating on MMA since his UFC deal expired in 2018.
