With the announcement that SummerSlam is going down on August 21 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, WWE fans are beginning to get excited.

WWE are bound to load this show up with the biggest names possible, especially since they return to touring with full houses in July and this is their first stadium show with full capacity since the Coronavirus pandemic emerged.

Rumours have circulated that John Cena will return at SummerSlam and potentially face Roman Reigns.

Becky Lynch’s name has also circulated in regards to a potential return. The Man had her child back in December 2020 and has been training hard.

But Brock Lesnar’s name is an obvious one to crop up. The Beast Incarnate isn’t even signed to WWE right now after he and the company let his last deal expire following WrestleMania 36.

The logic behind that was why would WWE pay Lesnar - their longtime highest paid star - an insanely high down downside guarantee when he had no intention of working during the pandemic?

WWE were doing shows behind closed doors and then the ThunderDome and Lesnar is certainly an attraction that the company would use for ticket sales. It makes sense for both parties to wait until WWE could have full houses again and, as of next month, they can.

So it was believed to be a mutual decision on WWE and Lesnar’s part not to renew, but eventually he would.

However, Dave Metlzer said on the podcast that WWE is not planning to have Lesnar at SummerSlam as of last week.

Furthermore, it was noted that there are forces within WWE that don’t want Lesnar brought back until Roman Reigns - a fellow Paul Heyman client - is ready to feud with him.

There’s no word on when that might be, but Lesnar vs Reigns for a world  title with Heyman in the middle would presumably be a WrestleMania-level programme.

The report is curious as Meltzer’s partner on the radio, Bryan Alvarez, suggested WWE are building towards Lesnar versus current WWE champion Bobby Lashley, but he didn’t say when.

One would presume, again, that this is a big-time matchup destined for a major show, not to mention the first-time they’d ever meet.

It’s almost certain that Lesnar will return to the easy money of his part-time WWE schedule at some point, but when is the question.
