The domestic season might be over but there is still plenty of football to be played, with Euro 2024 qualifiers being held over the next few days.

England are among the teams in action on Friday, while there are more matches to come the following day too.

Malta vs England: England to win to nil (4/11)

England will continue their qualification campaign on Friday night, as Gareth Southgate’s side head to Malta.

The Three Lions made a fine start to the process, beating Italy 2-1 and Ukraine 2-0 to sit at the summit of the Group C standings as matchday three approaches.

With the top two in each group qualifying for the tournament, England are already in a strong position as they look ahead to Germany.

This encounter should not cause them too many problems. Malta are among the continent’s minnows and they are yet to pick up a point following defeats by North Macedonia and Italy in March.

Malta did at least manage to score against the former, but that will probably be beyond them this time around.

Even if Southgate names an experimental XI, the visitors should prove far too strong for Malta.

Greece vs Republic of Ireland: Under 2.5 goals (8/15)

Neither Greece nor the Republic of Ireland were pleased when the draw for qualifying was made.

Grouped together with France and the Netherlands, these two teams are up against it in their bid to reach Euro 2024.

Ireland put in a decent display in their first match against les Bleus, but a 1-0 loss means they are yet to get off the mark.

The winner of this match could emerge as the closest challengers to the French and the Dutch, while a defeat for either would be a huge early blow.

The high-stakes nature of the game means it is unlikely to be a thriller. Neither nation is exactly renowned for free-flowing football, so we can expect this one to be a low-scoring affair.

Norway vs Scotland: Norway to win (19/20)

Norway have not qualified for a major tournament since Euro 2000, but they will be targeting next summer’s competition.

The emergence of Martin Odegaard and Erling Haaland within the same generation has given them a real chance.

But Norway are already playing catch-up after a loss to Spain and a draw with Georgia in March. 

They are five points adrift of Scotland, who registered a famous 2-0 victory over the Spanish in their last qualifier.

This is therefore a must-win game for Norway, whose hopes of qualification would be hanging by a thread were they to suffer another defeat here.

Scotland are a tricky team to play against but with home advantage behind them and plenty of attacking firepower, Norway could edge this one.

Belgium vs Austria: Both teams to score (5/6)

Belgium began the Domenico Tedesco era with an important win in their first qualifier, overcoming Sweden 3-0 thanks to a Romelu Lukaku hat-trick.

Meanwhile Austria are the current Group F leaders following back-to-back triumphs over Azerbaijan and Estonia on home soil.

Those are fixtures Austria would have expected to win, but it has at least given them a degree of confidence ahead of this much tougher assignment.

Belgium are strong favourites to come out on top as they seek to displace Austria in first place. 

But the visitors are capable of causing their hosts one or two problems. Austria have scored in each of their last five matches, while they will arrive in Brussels protecting a four-game winning streak.

Goals at both ends is a distinct possibility in this one.

Denmark vs Northern Ireland: Rasmus Hojlund to score any time (Evens)

Denmark were a huge disappointment at World Cup 2022. Widely tipped as potential dark horses in Qatar, they instead crashed out before the knockout phase.

The Danes are the favourites to win Group H, but they will not have everything their own way.

Indeed, after a 3-1 triumph over Finland on matchday one, Kasper Hjulmand’s men slumped to a shock 3-2 defeat by Kazakhstan a few days later.

We fancy them to get back on track against Northern Ireland, who beat San Marino in March before going down to Finland.

Rasmus Hojlund has five goals in two qualifiers and he will be keen to make his mark here, not least because a big-money move is in the offing this summer.
