Bournemouth vs Manchester United predictions
Manchester United are limping over the Premier League finish line.
An 11-point deficit to the top five means they will almost certainly miss out on next season’s edition of the Champions League.
Fifth place might not be enough to qualify after all, so United’s chances may in fact be even harder than they look right now.
Erik ten Hag’s team are still in the FA Cup and lifting that trophy would go some way to salvaging something from 2023/24.
But the rigour of 38-game league campaign is the best judge of a team’s quality and United have fallen well short of expectations in Ten Hag’s second season at the helm.
In truth, United are fortunate to be sixth right now. Their results have been better than their performances for much of the season.
The data confirms that. In the expected goals rankings, which measures the quality of chances each team creates and gives up, United are fifth-bottom. That is not good news for Ten Hag, who must convince Jim Ratcliffe and his colleagues that he is worth retaining for next term.
Some at Old Trafford may feel the club is too big for the Europa League, but that would be a mistake. After all, United have reached the last eight of the Champions League just twice since 2011/12.
A sixth-place finish might be enough to advance to the continent’s secondary tournament. The Europa League would not exactly set pulses racing at Old Trafford, but qualification is preferable to dropping down to eighth or ninth.
Indeed, while United fans are still looking up at Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, they are actually closer to Fulham in 13th in terms of points.
Ten Hag is on trial and a defeat on the south coast this weekend would damage his chances of earning a stay of execution in Manchester.
Bournemouth vs Manchester United betting tips
Bournemouth will be looking to complete the double over Manchester United this weekend.
Bournemouth to win - 29/20 (BetMGM)
It took a while for Bournemouth to click under Andoni Iroala, whose appointment in place of Gary O’Neil last summer was not a universally popular decision at the time.
It took Iraola until his 10th game to taste victory in the Premier League, but since then Bournemouth have hardly looked back.
From that 2-1 win against Burnley on October 28, only Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Aston Villa have collected more points. That represents a remarkable piece of work from Iraola over the last six months.
Free Bet Offers
For the first time ever, Bournemouth are the bookies’ favourites in a game against Manchester United - and it is not hard to see why.
The Cherries have won each of their last three games in front of their own fans and will not fear a United team that was outplayed by Brentford in a recent away game.
Having won 3-0 at Old Trafford in the first half of the campaign, Bournemouth are poised to complete the double over United for the first time in their history.

Bournemouth over 18.5 shots - 23/20 (BetUK)
Manchester United’s main problem this season has been an inadequate out-of-possession structure. Put simply, Ten Hag’s side are far too easy to play through.
We have seen this countless times in 2023/24, most recently in the draw with Liverpool last time out. On more than one occasion, Liverpool players ran straight through the heart of the United team.
This deficiency has resulted in opposition sides landing many, many shots on United’s goal. Incredibly, only Sheffield United have given up more shots than a team that began the season hoping to close the gap to top spot.
The Red Devils have been especially open in recent contests. In their last six outings in all competitions, United’s opponents have put up a combined 162 shots. That works out as an extraordinary 27 per game.
With that in mind, the above bet looks like fantastic value. Bournemouth are an attack-minded team under Iraola and they should have plenty of joy in advanced areas on Saturday.
⚽ Tip Bournemouth to have over 18.5 shots at 23/20 with BetUK ⚽
Bruno Fernandes to score or assist - 6/5 (Paddy Power)
It could be worth hedging your bets with your final selection. Besides, Manchester United could easily score even if they are defeated and give up 19 shots or more.
Bruno Fernandes is one player who has kept his performance levels reasonably high this season. There are certainly others who are more culpable for United’s poor overall performance.
No player in the division can better Fernandes’ record of three key passes per match. The Portugal international is still creating chances for others.
We also saw his outstanding technical ability last weekend with a wonderful equalising strike against Liverpool.
If United are to get anything from this game, they will need Fernandes to step up once again.
