Arsenal vs Brighton & Hove Albion predictions
Arsenal know more than most that starting a Premier League season strongly odes not guarantee anything.
The Gunners came flying out of the traps in both 2022/23 and 2023/24. In that first campaign, they dropped only five points from the first 54 available.
Last time out, Arsenal lost just one of their first 15 games and, despite a handful of draws, it was they who topped the table on Christmas Day.
Yet in neither season did Mikel Arteta’s team win the title. Manchester City came on strong after the turn of the year and ultimately overtook Arsenal. In 2022/23 they finished five points clear, before edging the Gunners out by a single point last term.
With that in mind, no one at the Emirates Stadium will be getting carried away after back-to-back victories at the beginning of 2024/25 - not least because City and Liverpool (and, for that matter, Brighton & Hove Albion) also boast 100 percent records.
Still, it was hard to not be impressed by Arsenal’s most recent triumph. Arteta’s team lost both of their meetings with Aston Villa last time out, a pair of results which in effect cost them the championship.
Last Saturday, they went to Villa Park and won. A critic may argue they were fortunate to do so. David Raya had to make one superb double-save to keep Villa out, while the hosts also missed a handful of other chances.
Yet it was Arsenal who ultimately showed the clinical edge that separates the very good teams from the elite ones. It was they who came on strong as the final whistle grew nearer. And it was they whose substitutes made a real impact, with Leandro Trossard key to the victory after entering from the bench.
That win was a statement of intent from Arsenal and evidence that, after several years of annual improvement, they may have got better once again.
Whether or not that is enough to finally overhaul Manchester City remains to be seen. But the optimistic mood around the Emirates heading into this weekend is not misplaced.
Arsenal vs Brighton & Hove Albion betting tips
Arsenal welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to the Emirates Stadium for the early kick-off on Saturday.
Brighton +1.5 Asian handicap - 5/6 (talkSPORT BET)
Brighton & Hove Albion have also made an excellent opening to the season, something which has become a habit for the south coast club.
In each of the last three years, Brighton have been led by a different head coach at the beginning of a campaign: Graham Potter in 2022/23, Roberto De Zerbi in 2023/24, and Fabian Hurzeler in 2024/25.
On all three occasions they have come flying out of the traps, although we anticipate Brighton’s progress being checked this weekend.

There is unlikely to be too much between the teams in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday. Brighton will play their usual style, but it will be interesting to see the extent to which Hurzeler introduces an element of pragmatism.
Brighton are capable of holding their own against the big boys, but they will probably be just squeezed out by Arsenal after 90 minutes, likely by a one-goal margin.
⚽ Back Brighton with a +1.5 Asian handicap at 5/6 with talkSPORT BET ⚽
Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals - 7/4 (talkSPORT BET)
Brighton turned in a dazzling display at the Emirates the season before last, running out 3-0 winners in May 2023. It was arguably the best performance of De Zerbi’s tenure.
They were outclassed by Arsenal in this fixture last season, though, going down 2-0 a week before Christmas.
On this occasion, we do expect Brighton to find the back of the net. They have looked sharp going forward against both Everton and Manchester United, scoring five goals across those two games.
Their exciting attack will meet its match on Saturday, with Arsenal’s watertight backline yet to be breached this term.
But Brighton have an abundance of forward options available to them and they are likely to cause Arsenal’s defence a few problems.
⚽ Tip both teams to score and over 2.5 goals at 7/4 with talkSPORT BET ⚽
Joao Pedro to score any time - 31/10 (talkSPORT BET)
Due to their status as odds-on favourites to win the game, the top of the goalscorer market is dominated by Arsenal players.
It may therefore be worth a punt on Joao Pedro, who is arguably Brighton’s most important attacker - even more so than the exhilarating Kaoru Mitoma.
The Brazilian is such a useful player. He does his best work as a second striker in Brighton’s 4-2-3-1 formation, but he can also operate up front or out wide.
That increases his chances of getting plenty of minutes this season, despite Brighton’s increasingly fierce competition for places in the final third.
Joao Pedro is also the designated penalty-taker, another reason to back him to find the net.
⚽ Go for Joao Pedro as an anytime scorer at 31/10 with talkSPORT BET ⚽
